22b(3) Compliance Statement

The Michigan Department of Education requires us to inform you that the literacy curriculum used in grades K-5 at Owendale-Gagetown Elementary School, Wonders, published by McGraw Hill, is not on the state’s evidence-based curriculum list and is not aligned to state standards, which could negatively impact student academic outcomes.
We are currently using Wonders because the district entered into a multi-year agreement with the publisher before the state established its evidence-based curriculum list.
Wonders is a widely used, established literacy program; its absence from the state’s list reflects the state’s evidence-review criteria rather than a finding that the curriculum is harmful.
We have adopted Into Reading, published by HMH, which is on the state’s list, and will implement it beginning in the 2027-28 school year.
If you have questions about your child’s literacy instruction, please contact the main office at (989) 678-4141.
